The students of the 4th grade of our school had the opportunity to travel to the past through an old photo of the city. It was taken immediately after the liberation from the Ottomans. The students paid special attention and they were interested in identifying the spot where the Chanidi Mosque was located. Their school, “Kaplanios School”, was built on this specific place much later.
Through team work, the activity motivated students to be connected with the history of their place, and to discover how the past shapes the present and future of our city. Observation and discussion about the image shown in the photograph gave them the chance to learn about the transformation of space and the importance of historical memory.
